SPUSA has a centralized billing team that handles payments for 108 locations. These payments are made through various methods, including EFTs and checks, and are distributed across more than 300 insurance portals. Managing all this is difficult for one central team. On top of that, paper EOBs and checks cause delays because they take longer to arrive and require more time to process manually compared to electronic formats like ERAs and EFTs. 

Another challenge is bank reconciliation—specifically, matching EFTs to their corresponding EOBs/ERAs before payments can be posted in the practice management system (PMS). This step is time-consuming and prone to errors when handled manually.
